Hi I was wondering if anyone knows how long Fertrells nutri-balancer lasts once opened.

Doesn't it have an expiration or 'sell by' date on the packaging?

It might but I haven't purchased it yet...I'm trying to dertermine if it makes sense to buy it for my small flock since I will only be using small amounts at a time. Not all 60# at once

Call the feed store and have them look at the mill date/expiration date on the package so you don't have to drive there. I do that all the time since my closest feed store doesn't rotate their feed and they hang onto it till it sells - which could be 6 months or a year.
You can also call Fertrell and ask them how long it is viable.

Fertrell stated 6 months in the past when I contacted them. They did sell some kind of a packet of refresher that you mixed in if it was older than that.

I did contact Fertrell, here is their most recent information...

"Good Morning,
I would like to thank you for contacting Fertrell through our website. My name is Justin Barlup and I am a member of the animal nutrition team here at Fertrell. Six months is a standard rule of thumb of the shelf life on our nutribalancer products. You can really get 9 months out of them but we prefer to err on the side of caution. The vitamins will oxidize over time and would cause the product to lose it's nutritional value. If you do have some nutribalancer products that are older, we do have a booster pack available that can be added to recoop the nutritional value."

Since it sounds as though the mineral portion is stable (and that makes sense), I wonder if you can buy the mineral portion, and buy the vitamin portion separately, perhaps keep the vitamin portion in the freezer?

An other option might be to inquire on your state thread and see if you can find a few members to split a bag with.

Justin gave you the correct answer. When I buy the booster packs I get two because two will fit in a flat rate box. I think the cost was $44 including shipping. Unfortunately, I have to buy mine in bulk and store it or drive back to VA to buy it by the bag. Mixing the booster in small quantities will be a pain. I'd double check my math with Justin, but a 5 gallon bucket of feed is about 25 pounds which would need 0.7 oz of booster mixed in.

Oh, sorry didn't realize how new you are...
Hi and welcome to BYC :frow We're so happy you've decided to join us:ya

Silly question, doesn't your Fertrell dealer offer feed by the bag as well? If not, he likely provides a local mill who does. What part of the country are you in?

Thank you rjohns39... I live in Jersey. I do have fertrell feed bags near me, I was just interested in making my own feed as it would be more cost effective for me.
